Polities swallowtail

Polites swallowtail.

Wingspan 8 - 10 cm.

The butterfly lives in the humid tropical forests of South Asia. In this species of Papilio, males and females differ greatly in wing shape and color. Males have a strict black color with bright and contrasting white stripes on the hind wings, and females, in addition to orange-brown spots, also have very graceful tails that visually increase the size of the butterfly itself.

Under good conditions indoors or in a winter garden, these butterflies are very active and spend most of their time flying in search of a favorite flower or their mate. One of the most cheerful and perky butterflies, carefreely flying in the sunlight in search of food or a mate. The female is more spectacular and brighter than the male, so much so that they were previously considered representatives of different species.

They have a wingspan of up to 10 cm. When the tropical beauty opens her outlandish wings, we can admire milky-white and coral-red spots on a coal-black background, also decorated with a black frame. Its front wing is translucent, flaxen-colored with a soft transition to black. Multi-colored wings attract potential male suitors, increasing the birth rate. The coloring of males is much more modest, limited to a series of light spots on matte dark wings.

The butterfly's flight is energetic and swift. It rapidly "loops" left and right. It flies on top and immediately descends. It is very interesting to watch the flight of a pair of such butterflies - it is not for nothing that in the East such a pair of butterflies "dancing" around each other represents family happiness.

Watch the amazing world of the butterfly and you will discover the amazing beauty, mystery, fabulousness and magic of this extraordinary creature.
